Getting To Know Me Through Film

You can tell a lot about a person from the types of movies that they like, and I am no exception. Books, music, movies, and television have had a large influence over me for the past 25 years of my life. My very first movie that I saw at the theater was "The Little Mermaid" and ever since then, I have been in love with the movie screen. Here I attempted to painstakingly narrow down my TOP 10 movies of all time (it was close to impossible) and a brief description of why I love them.

10. What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)

This movie had two of my favorite actors of all time, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Johnny Depp. I loved this movie because I felt that Leo's performance as a mentally handicapped person was so believable that I almost forgot he was acting. It's a beautiful story about self sacrifice all in the name of family. If you have never seen it then I would highly recommend it. If you are a crier like I am (lol) watch out for the birthday cake scene, it's a tearjerker.

9) Step Brothers (2008)

Anything dealing with Will Ferrell makes me burst into laughter, and having the added bonus of John C. Reilly made me almost pee my pants. This movie has the best quotes, and if you know me, you know that I quote this movie quite frequently.

8) Clueless (1995)

Basically if you were alive in the 90's then you know all about this movie. This movie had such a huge impact on what was the IT things to wear: Calvin Klein, Mary Jane shoes, plaid skirts, cardigans, knee-high socks/stockings, and don't forget the famous saying, "As If!" It's a must see for any girl or guy!

7) Jetsons The Movie (1990)

The Jetsons has always been my favorite cartoon even though there was only 1 season ever made of the show. I've always been into futuristic things so this was right up my ally. I had my first cartoon character crush on Apollo Blue, and I've always loved Rosie's sarcastic attitude.

6) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

I have always been a child who has loved magic and at the age of 25, nothing has changed. Though I love the Potter series as a whole, this particular installment stood out because I love Christmas and the scenes at the Yule Ball is like Christmas times 1 million for me.

5) Girl, Interrupted (1999)

Angelina Jolie, enough said, lol.

4) Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

I have never met a Tim Burton movie that I didn't love, and this one has both Christmas and Halloween in it. It's a dark cartoon, but the story is so incredibly relate-able; trying to be something that you're not. Another MUST movie if you have not seen it.

3) Pretty In Pink (1986)

The quintessential 80's movie. John Huges's movies have a knack for capturing what it's like to be a teenager in any decade. Duckie is one of my favorite characters of all time.

2) Hocus Pocus (1993)

The movie where SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) traded in her Manolo Blahnik's in NYC for enchanting little kids and sucking their souls from their bodies all in a quest for youth. This is a fun little movie about 3 witches from 1693 in Salem, MA who were supposed to be hanged for witchcraft, but instead cursed the town with a promise of vengeance when a virgin lit their black flame candle on the night of a full moon. 300 years later a virgin indeed lights the magical candle, and the sisters are set free to wreak havoc on the towns children. I've had an infatuation with witches for a long time, and in fact, seriously tried to be one at one point. Great family movie for Halloween.

1) Cruel Intentions (1999)

This was the first adult themed movie I saw in a theater (I was 14 at the time). It is an adaptation of the book The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare with a modern twist. Drugs, sex, and money...HELL YES! I know this movie better than I know my own mothers phone number (I don't even know her number by the way). I loved this movie so much so that I even bought the soundtrack. I can remember the entire audience gasping at the end of the movie when... well you'll just have to see it to know why and if you've always seen it then you already know why. Not saying that it is THE BEST movie ever made, but after 11 years, it's the movie that has had the biggest and the longest impression on my life.

Red and Wild with Lace

I just a look at the Torrid site to see if anything new popped up that I might want to purchase, and behold, there was a brand spankin' new black lace dress. Now, I'm really not into dresses as my height tends to make them look more like crop tops on me, but this one is so cutsey! I paired it with other items off of the site that I would prolly wear it with. Not saying that I am buying any of these items, but it does make a girl think... Check them out!

5" Wildcat heels $39.00, Lace Print Ruched Shoulder Dress $58.00,  Red Hello Kitty Clutch Purse 35.00, Black Bead and Flower Bracelet $14.00 (you can find fake pearl bracelets for cheap at accessory stores), and Red lipstick of your choice!

I'm Getting the BOOT(s)!

Soooooooooo I've been obsessing over these scrumptious studded faux-leather beauties since they made their debut on Torrid's website. They are priced at $68.00 which isn't bad at all in my opinion. I purchased them on Monday and they are already making their journey on over to my size elevens! They feature a 1" heel, Slip-resistant sole, side zip for entering your footsies, and studded buckle-straps. I can just feel my inner biker babe coming out as I type. I will post pics when I receive them so keep a look out!

True Blood: I LOVE Frankling Mott!

Yes, I know I have neglected you dear readers (that's if I have any at all), but I have been recovering from the nastiest tooth ache, and as if that wasn't enough I slipped and fell on my aunts tiled walkway after dear old Bonnie left everything wet here in "sunny" Florida. Needless to say, that this post is waaaay past due and, to make it up to you, I want to talk about one of my favorite shows, True Blood.

Since my Grandmother doesn't believe in premium tv channels, I have been left out of the loop of the Trubie world since about halfway through the second season. My aunt (the one who's tiled floor I used as a slip n' slide) goes out of town every so often on business, and I am left to house sit. She has every single premium channel out there so when the opportunity comes for her to skedaddle on over to wherever it is that she is going, I get so ELATED!!! Luckily she took one of those "business" trips last week because I got tired of hearing and reading about all of the bloody mess I was missing out on True Blood I couldn't stand it!

I took an entire day out of my life and devoted it to catching up (I can do this because I am unemployed), and let me tell you guys I cried like a newborn baby when Godric committed vampire suicide.

Now, to the REAL reason for this post without dragging this out longer than it has to be, Franklin Mott.

I LOVE HIM! If you follow the show you are probably thinking that I'm insane, but Franklin has to be the most interesting character True Blood has to date. He's a vampire detective working for Russell Edgington, the King of Mississippi, trying to dig up dirt on Bill Compton. Aside from Franklin's neuroticism, I think he could be a swell guy. He has this insane infatuation with Tara Thornton because he believes that they are just alike. Tara has no interest in him in fact, she is terrified of him which is understandable and all being that he is a psychopath vampire, he has tied her up against her will, has kept her captive and, bloody sobbed over her (literally) when she tried to leave him, but the inner loon inside of me would like to see them together.

Underneath all of the crazy that encompasses Franklin, I think he is just looking for love in all the wrong places. Tara is certainly not in the best state of mind to be falling in love so soon after her last boyfriend met his demise at the hands of her BFF's brother, and if bashing Franklin's head in with some kind of a mid-evil mallet in episode 6 of season 3 isn't an indication that Tara wants nothing to do with him, I don't know what kind of sign Franklin will need. I have to say I was quite upset with Tara when I saw that, she didn't have to bash the poor dudes head in like that while he was sleeping!!! How ungrateful, Tara! I do hope he is able to do that magical vampire healing thingy that they do when they are hurt and, when and if he does, Tara, and her braids better watch out. I think my dear Franklin is gone for forever, but my Godsister seems to think otherwise. I HOPE she is right because it would break my heart to see him leave the show so soon.

*True Blood seasons 1 & 2 are now available on dvd. You can also catch new episodes from Season 3 on HBO Sunday nights at 9 pm*
